LIME POINTING MORTAR

Despite its enduring utility over many centuries, lime mortar’s effectiveness as a building material has not been well understood. Time-honoured practices were based on tradition, folklore and trade knowledge, vindicated by the vast number of old buildings that remain standing. Only during the last few decades has empirical testing provided a scientific understanding of its remarkable durability.

Lime mortar is a natural accompaniment to handmade bricks and stone, not only for its attractive finish and appearance, but also because of the many unique advantageous properties over cement.

Key Benefits:

Flexibility
Lime mortar is weaker than bricks, masonry and stones, yet it is able to support the full weight of a structure, allowing buildings to flex and move.

Breathability
Lime allows moisture to evaporate and walls to breathe.

Absorbs Co2
When the curing process starts lime begins to re-absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

Less Movement
Using lime mortar can decrease the need for and frequency of expansion joints.

Increased Longevity & Durability of Brickwork
Any moisture within the brickwork or stonework is allowed to escape naturally, reducing the risk of frost damage and ‘blowing’ of facades.

Recyclability
The use of lime mortar enables masonry to be recycled at the end of the building’s life.

Developed in partnership with Limegreen, our range of hydraulic lime mortars offer an authentic solution to period property renovation and work perfectly with new builds. This range has been designed with specific conservation areas in mind to offer a variety of beautiful bespoke colours.
